Burberry's Hit and Miss

Burberry Fall 2011 Campaign
Models: Edie Campbell, Milly Simmonds, Cara Delevingne and Callum Turner
Photographer: Mario Testino

This campaign is not one of my favorites from Burberry. Although the photographs are consistent with the overall Burberry feel, the photographer could have pushed the models more. The models' faces are almost exactly the same in all of the pictures and there is no power in them. In the third photograph, the male exerts dominance with the stereotypical "arm over the female model" pose. The clothes could have been highlighted more with individual pictures of each model and a lighter background color. The only photograph that is aesthetically pleasing is first one provided here. The model has light in her eyes and shows her presence. She grasps the bag in a way that shows her relationship with the product. Luckily, this photograph redeems the rest of the campaign.
